Wegovy 7.2mg: An Exciting New Way To Boost Weight Loss Results

If you are already well established on your weight loss journey with Wegovy 2.4mg, you may find progress has come to a standstill even though you’re doing everything right.
You now have the option to supercharge your treatment. A new dose of Wegovy 7.2mg (made by the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk) has been approved today by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). It looks set to build on your existing results and boost weight loss even further.
What is the new 7.2mg dose?
Before today, Wegovy 2.4mg was the maximum available dose. While this has been a life-changing treatment for millions of people, you might find yourself in a position where it is no longer enough.
If you are aiming for significant weight loss, or if your body handles Wegovy really well, you may at some point hit a "plateau" where your progress slows or even completely stops.
Frustratingly, this can happen even when you have worked hard to build “healthy habits” like eating mindfully and increasing your activity levels.
The newly approved 7.2mg dose is a triple-strength option that looks to be especially helpful for people who are comfortable with the current dose but need extra support to reach their health goals.
How is it taken?
So far, you have been ordering one pen per month, at your current strength, and injecting once weekly.
Moving to the new, higher dose will require a change in your weekly routine. At the moment, there is no Wegovy 7.2mg pen on the market, and so this new dose will be administered using three separate 2.4mg doses taken together once a week.
This means you will need to order three Wegovy 2.4mg pens each month.

There are important practical steps that you will need to follow when using this new dose, for both safety and effectiveness:
1. Three separate injections, spaced out
You will inject a dose of 2.4mg three separate times, one right after another, on your scheduled dosing day. You must space them out, making sure each of the three injection sites is at least 5cm (approximately 2 inches) apart from the others.
"This makes certain that your dose is properly absorbed. It also protects your skin from getting sore or developing hard lumps, which can make injecting painful and the medicine work less effectively.
2. A new needle every single time
Make sure to attach an unused, sterile needle for each of the three separate injections. This keeps things clean and ensures the needle is sharp, making each injection as comfortable as possible.
"It is recommended to open all three pens simultaneously and inject once from each pen every week to help keep track of your progress.
3. The increased importance of site rotation
Even when injecting a single dose each week, rotating sites is important. Now that you will be injecting three doses in one sitting, site rotation is even more vital.
Keep track of where you place your three injections so that you can move to a different area the following week. You may find it easiest to switch between your stomach one week and your thigh the next. For example: Week 1 - left abdomen, Week 2 - left thigh, Week 3 - right abdomen, Week 4 - right thigh.
"Rotating where you inject helps to prevent hard lumps or fatty deposits from developing under the skin over time, which can cause soreness and reduce how effective your medication is.
What the Science Says
Wegovy 7.2mg has been approved after showing impressive results in the STEP UP trial. This study looked at how the new 7.2mg dose performed compared to the standard 2.4mg one.
The results were clear:
1. Greater Weight Loss
Over 72 weeks, people using the new 7.2mg dose lost around 19% of their starting weight. That is nearly one-fifth of their total body weight. In comparison, those staying on the standard dose achieved an average loss of about 15%
2. More Success
Nearly one in three people (33.2%) on the new dose lost more than a quarter of their starting body weight. This is more than double the number of people who achieved the same results on the standard dose.
3. Similar Tolerability
If you are already comfortable with your current 2.4mg dose, you are likely to handle the step up to 7.2mg well. Its overall safety profile matches what we already know about Wegovy.
You may have a slighter higher chance of encountering mild stomach-related side effects (like nausea or digestive issues) with the higher dose.
The study also noticed that some people felt increased skin sensitivity (mild tingling) with Wegovy 7.2mg. This is known as dysaesthesia. Fortunately, this was temporary and manageable for most patients.
Is this right for you?
This new option will not suit everyone, but it may be helpful if you are:
- Already taking the Wegovy 2.4mg maintenance dose.
- Not experiencing significant side effects.
- Willing to order three Wegovy 2.4mg pens and inject three separate doses each week.
